Tansanit

Tansanit

The violet-tailed sylph mainly inhabits mountain rainforests between 300 m and 2,100 m above sea level and is considered endemic to the Colombian and Ecuadorian Choco region. The species name was probably given due to the blue shimmering, conspicuous and long outer tail feathers of the males and can be translated as heavenly tail splendour.
