Taiga

"The power and magic of the taiga is not due to gigantic trees or sepulchral silence but because perhaps only migratory birds know where it ends", is how the writer Anton Chekhov once described the endless expanses of the boreal coniferous forests. The taiga stretches as a broad band around the northern hemisphere, where it defies an adverse environment to form the largest contiguous forests on earth.
