Sifaka

Sifaka

The call "shee-faak", with which some lemurs warn their conspecifics of threats, gave an entire species group its onomatopoeic name: sifaka. Their voices were once an integral part of the soundscape of Madagascar's forests, but today their alarm call is heard less and less often in the increasingly shrinking habitats.
