Pyrop

Although the Giant Hummingbird, as the largest member of its family, is almost twice as heavy as the second largest hummingbird, weighing approx. 20 g, and thus reaches its energetic limits, especially in flight, the species nevertheless colonises a wide range of altitudes from sea level up to approx. 4,500 m above sea level.  This makes this species a rarity among hummingbirds as a high-altitude generalist.
