Peridot

During the main flowering period between the end of June and August, hummingbirds from the lower altitudes explore the so-called páramo, the treeless highland steppe area of the Andes. At this time, many sparkling violetears fly to altitudes of around 3,500 m to 4,500 m above sea level, at least in the mornings when the sun is blazing, before retreating back into the depths of the Andes in the afternoon.
