Landriff

Landriff

The Tsingy have a living past. A long time ago, they were formed in the ocean, where a coral reef grew layer by layer from coral skeletons, dead sponges and diatoms. Over the course of millions of years, a layer of limestone several hundred metres thick was created, which today forms the Tsingy limestone massif shaped by time and water. The living conditions on its surface are extreme, with temperatures sometimes reaching up to 60°C and the soil between the needle-pointed rocks, from which plants draw their nutrients, is scarce.
