Land des Verborgenen

Land des Verborgenen

With the end of the last ice age, beech forests spread from small, isolated retreats in southern Europe far northwards across the continent over the following millennia. Hardly a ray of light penetrates through their dense, closed canopy and the world below remains hidden. Only a few other trees thrive in the shadowy realm of the beech, and the tall, branch-free trunks and that special gloom lend these forests a mystical character that has inspired the imagination of many peoples.
