Eisland

The musk ox (Ovibos moschatus), or Ummimaq (the Bearded One), as the Inuit of Greenland call it because of its thick coat, is considered the essence of the Arctic - a symbol of resilience, tranquility, and survival in a frozen, cold world. Once upon a time, the musk ox roamed the vast expanses of the last Ice Age alongside mammoths. Today, the musk ox has become a much lonelier creature, yet it continues to serve as a species that makes life in the tundra easier for other species. Smaller mammals such as snow hares, as well as birds like ptarmigans, benefit from the Ummimaqs, as they dig through the snow in search of their own food, thereby making it easier for their smaller companions to find food.
