Bhereg

Bhereg

The name birch is derived from the old Indo-European term Bhereg, which means enveloping lustre. The white colouring, which is responsible for the shine, is due to the substance betulin, which is found in the bark. However, the birch not only shines with its colour, but also with its long-lasting presence. Fossil finds prove that the species existed around 65.5 million years ago, before the extinction of the dinosaurs.
