Ammolit

The energy-intensive hovering flight of hummingbirds is only possible by ingesting the sugary nectar of plants. Even though hummingbirds can feed on insects and spiders, nectar is their most important source of energy, which creates a dependency. However, plants are also dependent on hummingbirds as they act as pollinators. This connection resulted in co-evolution, which ensured that some hummingbird species specialised in just one plant species, which in turn adapted to just this one pollinator. This led, for example, to the emergence of hummingbirds with special beak shapes and plants with funnel-shaped flowers that rely on striking colours.
